One of the ways in which to take full control of one’s health is to be mindful of illnesses that may affect your sense of wellbeing.

One of the illnesses that may influence ones sense of wellbeing is anxiety. Anxiety disorders are characterized by a sense of doubt and vulnerability about future events. The attention of anxious people is focused on their future prospects, and the fear that those future prospects will be bad. Anxiety is different from depression as anxiety disorders are characterized by a variety of symptoms involving anxious thoughts, unexplained physical sensations, and avoidant or self-protective behaviours. Depression however, generally doesn’t show the same fear and uncertainty that people do with anxiety disorders. In addition, depressed people are not so preoccupied with worrying about what might happen to them in the future. They think they already know what will happen, and they believe it will be bad.

Types, signs and symptoms

There are seven different types of anxiety disorders that exist. These include social phobia, panic disorder, post-traumatic stress disorder, obsessive compulsive behaviour, agoraphobia and the health anxiety disorder.

The signs and symptoms of anxiety comprise of a large range of different triggers. These triggers affect a person physically, emotionally, cognitively and behaviourally. Ongoing worrying about unrealistic views of problems as well as headaches, sweating, dizziness, light headedness, hot flashes, or sudden chills, fear that you’re going to lose control, go crazy or are even about to die,  nausea, wanting to use the bathroom more often than usual and having trouble falling asleep are a few of these symptoms.

Treatment for anxiety

There are many different ways that have been prescribed to treat anxiety. Some include therapy medications like antidepressants and antianxiety, psychotherapy, hypnosis and simply to take upon relaxation techniques. However it would be recommended that a medical doctor is consulted to prescribe the type of treatment that should be used as it will be based on the severity of the condition.
